Merry Christmas | Pink Paislee Yuletide | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean and today I am back to share another Christmas layout with you!
I am working with the gorgeous Pink Paislee Yuletide collection over the next few weeks so keep an eye out for some festive inspiration using this collection!

This week I have created a page with lots of tags in my design. Because there were 4 tags in the die-cut pack, I decided to also my cut my photo into a tag shape in order to have an odd number of tags on the page. Odd numbers are often better when it comes to designs. I chose the cute spotted paper as my background and adhered the tags to the paper.

I threaded some red and white baker's twine through the holes in the tops of the tags and glued down the ends of the twine at the edge of the page. I also added one of the gorgeous gold tree clips to the right hand corner of my photo.

I layered the tags with some extra embellishments like the stars and candy canes from the die-cut pack. I also added a super cute flair button from my stash that went with my photo to the left. I added a few phrase stickers from my stash to bring in a little bit of black and white.
Thanks so much for stopping by this week!

Merry and Bright | Pink Paislee Yuletide | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean and today I am back to share another Christmas layout with you!
I am working with the gorgeous Pink Paislee Yuletide collection over the next few weeks so keep an eye out for some festive inspiration using this collection!

I knew when I saw the red paper that had the Merry Christmas printed on it that I wanted to cut a title out from it with my Silhouette Cameo. I chose the Merry and Bright title because I liked the different fonts used in the title.

Cut files are a great way to jump start a design if you are  little bit stuck. Once I had placed the title down, it was then very easy to work out where I wanted to put my photo and other embellishments. Underneath my photo, I layered one of the acetate tags from the die-cut pack.

I added 2 flair buttons from my stash at home, I have such a massive flair collection so when I can use them up, I do! It was great to be able to get 2 on this page! I also added a few of the super cute bell, bauble and star puffy stickers around the cut file design.
Thanks so much for stopping by this week!

Happy Holidays | Pink Paislee Yuletide | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean and today I am back to share another Christmas layout with you!
I am working with the gorgeous Pink Paislee Yuletide collection over the next few weeks so keep an eye out for some festive inspiration using this collection!

This week I decided to go for a super clean and simple style of layout and I love how it turned out. My style is generally clean and simple but this is a whole another level of clean and simple!

I started by choosing a background paper and then chose my photo and elements that would not over power the photo or the background paper since its quite a busy paper. I matted my photo with white cardstock to help it pop off the green paper. I chose the Happy Holidays journal card to go alongside the photo, I liked how I could add a cluster of embellishments to the journal card.

I wanted something on the left of my photo so I chose one of the gorgeous die-cut gold snowflakes and added a flair button from my stash over the top. I definitely had to add another gold tree clip and it goes perfectly just to the right of my photo. Lastly I added some of the super cute mini snowflake puffy stickers to some of the centres of the design on the background paper. I also machine stitched around the very edge of my page to add some more texture.
Thanks so much for stopping by this week!

Special Delivery | Pink Paislee Yuletide | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean and today I am back to share a Christmas layout with you!
I am working with the gorgeous Pink Paislee Yuletide collection over the next few weeks so keep an eye out for some festive inspiration using this collection!

I started by choosing a few bits and pieces that would go well with the colours in my photo, I picked out the acetate green stripe tag, the large gold star and the gold bauble as well as some of the phrase pieces from the die-cut pack and began to layer them together.

I absolutely LOVE those gold Christmas Tree clips, I added one of them to the right corner of my photo, there are only 6 of those in a pack so I will need to use them wisely! I cut out the plain striped piece from the Baked Goods paper to layer underneath my photo and I added one of those gorgeous doilies as an extra layer also.

To the left of my photo you can see I built a small cluster of embellishments including the gold bauble with an acetate snowflake over the top, a red star and a holly puffy sticker. I also felt it need that green present and a phrase sticker to bring in a little extra something to that side of my page.
Some black ink splatters and the date stamp finish off my page for this week!

Pocket Pages | Field Notes & Mermaid Markers | Agnus Kasprzak

Hi again :) I'm back with the rest of my June pages using Vicki Boutin's Field Notes collection paired with some bold colour from Jane Davenport's Mermaid Markers.

Just like my my previous post, I have used Mermaid Markers on a mix of watercolour and mixed media foundations paper to create my own cards and backgrounds but have gone with a darker colour palette for this part of the month.

Starting with the background, I wet a piece of the mixed media foundations cardstock before applying colour with one of the mermaid markers - working on a slightly wet surface will produce a nice watercolour effect that allows the pigment to spread and blend smoothly.  I then placed one of the Ink Spill stencils over the top of the background and used a baby wipe to absorb some of the colour to give the card more depth. Once dry I stamped one of the images from the Shine stamp and die set using my favourite waterproof ink. I painted a pink circle onto a separate sheet of cardstock and stamped some fun spots from the Escape stamp and die set to create an easy accent that I layered under one of the stickers from the watercolour sticker pack.

I kept the background solid for the next card, but was still able to produce some interesting effects by varying the colour saturation based on the amount of water used. Even though mermaid markers already come in a great range of premixed colours, I love that they also allow you to create your own custom shades like the gorgeous plum colour I created by mixing Jellyfish, Deep Sea and Starfish. I like to use a plastic paint palette to mix my colours but any non porous surface will work for this.
I added a sentiment from the watercolour sticker pack that I applied onto white cardstock to keep the colours looking crisp.

One of the things that instantly drew me this Vicki Boutin collection is the mix of bright colours teamed with bold black and white images and I wanted to recreate this look to help me tie all the elements across both pages together. Going back to the Shine stamp and die set, I stamped three flowers onto my background then used several shades of mermaid markers to fill in the background.
I mixed my colours directly onto the card this time and this is where the mixed media foundations cardstock really shines because it allows you add lots of wet layers without buckling or warping like regular cardstock would.

The foundations cardstock is also great for lifting and removing colour with either water or towel without having to worry about the pilling you often get once you start moving watercolours around on regular cardstock.

Creating all of my own backgrounds forced me to pay extra attention to colour placement this month but it also gave me the freedom to experiment with combinations that helped my photos to stand out. Using stamps was also a fun way to create my own accents and I even used ink from the same mermaid markers as I used to paint the background of the blue card in the top corner to create a perfectly matched pattern over the card - you can see how saturated the pigment is when you don't add any water.

You can see in this photo that the watercolour paper I used for the background produces a textured finish while the smooth surface of the foundations cardstock that I used to stamp on the heart accents absorbs the colour differently so it's definitely worth experimenting with a variety of surfaces when playing with any wet medium.

Making use of the brush tip of the mermaid markers to create a quick and easy filler card with a little bit of brush lettering teamed with more stamping.

Adding just a few little pops of colour with some cute painted raindrops paired with a puffy sticker title was all the was needed to finish off the month :)
