Beautiful Moments Mixed Media Canvas By Farrel Tailor

Hello there lovelies!! I'm back today to share with you a mixed media canvas I created using 13arts papers and sprays along with Prima's Color Philosophy Dye Inks. So let give you a quick tutorial in how I created this.

I have to apologise for the process photos.... we have just moved into our new house and the lighting isn't the best.

I started off by applying modeling paste to my 5x7 inch canvas board and used a comb like tool to create the lined texture. I then applied 13arts Ayeeda Mists Pastel Pink, Lavender and caramel using a wet paint brush. I also used those sprays to splatter around the edges. Once dry, I then inked around the edges using Prima Color Philosophy Ink - Foggy Nights and with a wet paint brush just lightly went over the edges to create a shadow like effect.

I then cut 2 straws in half and adhered them to the canvas. Next to colour the cheesecloth, I inked my craft mat with Foggy Nights and sprayed with water then rubbed the cheesecloth in the ink and used my heat gun to dry and then adhered to the canvas.

I cut out the paper doily from 13arts Fly Away pp Days and Nights and sprayed it using Ayeeda Mist Pastel Cobalt. I also used the Fly Away sticker sheet for the title which I trimmed and mounted onto white cardstock.

Next I added some gold wire from my stash and some flowers that I had lightly painted with Pastel Pink and Pastel Caramel spray and then splattered using Dylusions Black Marble spray.

Thanks for dropping by and look forward to sharing my next project with you very soon.

Pocket Pages with Agnus | Elle's Studio Family Fun continued

Hi again, I'm back with another project life share using the awesome 'Family Fun' collection from Elle's Studio and have recently noticed a pattern emerging when I plan out my pages. No matter what your scrapping style is like, there is no doubt that our precious photos and memories are the main attraction in our project life albums but have you even considered the other factors that help to create a nice flow across each page in your albums?  After giving this more thought I have narrowed it down to 3 main aspects... COLOUR. DESIGN. DETAIL.

Colour is usually the first thing that engages the viewer and really helps to set the tone for your projects. Colours don't always need to match but they generally need to compliment each other in some way for your pages to look visually appealing. Once the viewer has been drawn in by the colours, they will notice the design - does the page have a good design that helps to lead the eye across the page? Is there a sense of balance?

Moving onto design, where simple things like scale can have a big impact on the sense of balance on your pages. Even though this particular photo has a lot of negative space where large embellishments could have been used, I already used quite a few larger accents in some of the other pockets and decided on a subtle pop of colour with a few fussy cut flowers from one of the patterns in the 6x6" paper stack

Scale is also something to consider when combing your patterned papers. Small delicate prints work well alongside larger bold patterns which is why I often buy both the 6x6" papers as well as a few 12x12" prints from the same range.

And just as importantly contrast also plays a big part in pattern pairing, for example busy colourful patterns generally work better alongside solid blocks of colour.

... just like these black spots on a white background work well with the white spots on a coloured background :) Check out my my previous post for more tips on combining patterns in split card designs and using simple things like white borders to help your colours pop against a bright background as well as mirroring and repetition to create a sense of balance.

Only after your choice of colour and overall design has drawn the viewer in, will they notice all the little details that you have added - mind you this will usually happen in the blink of an eye so all the pretty details in the world can easily get overlooked if you haven't set the groundwork with the first two aspects.

Filler cards are a great way to add detail to your pages and they don't need to be elaborate. Simple things like a little bit of foam tape between two of the the pennant shapes and a toothpick was all that was needed to to create this fun layered flag.

Add words and images directly over your photos and memorabilia to help them tie into your page.

Use left over paper strips to create a layered base for your alpha stickers. Use a mix of die-cut words and alpha stickers to add more interest to your titles.

Mix textures to give your cards more depth and most importantly have fun with your designs!

Hopefully this COLUR. DESIGN. DETAIL. run down hasn't scared you off ;) and I hope that you find some of these tips useful when you are creating your next pages!

Good Times | Elle's Studio Family Fun | Tarrah McLean

Happy Friday

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I have a new, colourful layout to share using the fabulous Elle's Studio 'Family Fun' collection

As soon as I saw that gorgeous multicoloured stripe paper from the Family Fun collection, I knew I wanted to put a background cut file in front of it! I just love how the colours look behind all those circles! The cut file is from Just Nick Studio!

I machine stitched the outer edge of the white cardstock but I didn't adhere the cut file flat to the paper so that it created a slight shadow effect in some places...I used one of the journal cards to back my photo and once that was adhered the embellishing was easy.

I used a mix of the ephemera pieces, acrylic shapes, wood veneer and I also added a flair button from my stash too! I added some machine stitching under some of the embellishments just to give them an extra highlight.

Happy creating!

Home Sweet Home | Elle's Studio Family Fun | Tarrah McLean

It's Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a new layout I have created using the beautiful Elle's Studio 'Family Fun' collection!

To begin this layout, I pulled out all the grey and blue elements including papers, ephemera, puffy stickers, acrylic shapes and journal cards. I arranged my photo and the journal cards into a design I was happy with.

Before I adhered them all down, I added some machine stitching to create some added interest and texture. I like how the stitching creates a border around each too. The banner I made in the top right, I also machine stitched through and curled up the bottom of the banners for some dimension.

Once my photo and journal cards were adhered, I then embellished my layout using the puffy stickers, wood veneer pieces, acrylic shapes and ephemera. The Home Sweet Home title I used foam adhesive underneath to raise it off the page.

I love that the journal card on the right, left me an area to add some of the things we are currently loving!

If you don't have the Elle's Studio Family Fun collection, I urge you to grab it from the Sassy store now! Its so fun to create with! I am loving it!

Thanks for stopping by the Sassy blog today!

Happy creating!
